85:. From Perfect Storm to an April Shower

March 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, I was up late last night. Around 4ish. It was late. I am tired. I was studying. I had to quit at some point.

I get to class today, and my Econ professor decided to move our exam to thursday of next week. Sweet.
I get to my next class, and my QMM professor explained everything that was gonna be on the quiz. Sweet.
I’m going to my lab after this class, and this is the one test that I felt good about last night. Sweet.
I’ll hopefully be able to get some rest tonight. Sweet.

It’s turning into a good day. God is good.

83:. The Perfect Storm/MARCH MADNESS!!!

March 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, today is March 17th. What is today? You might have answered St. Patrick’s Day. Yes, but no. It may be the day where children everywhere are covered with tiny little bruises because they were pinched for their lack of greenity today, but it is also something far more serious in the world of CDenning. Today is the eve of the Perfect Storm. If you will remember back to the movie with the same name, the Perfect Storm occurred when all the little details that can make a storm bad all happened at once. This renders the Perfect Storm. What does it look like here? Here is the equation . . .

Macroeconomics Exam 2 +
Quantitative Methods Quiz 2 +
Accounting Excel Proficiency Exam =
The Perfect Storm

Before this afternoon, all to the fault of myself and the fact that I had my smokin hot girlfriend in town for a whole week (freeking yes!), I was not prepared for any of these. However, at this point in time, being 11:15 pm est, I am now ready for the latter two of the formula. I still have my most extensive task ahead of me, the dreaded Econ Exam. It looks to be a long night.

On a lighter side, during one of my breaks tonight I created a March Madness group on espn.com and drew up my bracket as well. Who do I have in the East you may ask? What upsets do I see in the first round? Check it out . . .

If you’d like, let the trash talk begin. And if you are so brave, head here and join my Group. Group Name: Good Gravy , Password: Denning . Thank You Jesus for March Madness and the glory that is Men’s College Basketball.

51:. Test Update

February 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, I just got done with that test. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I’m definitely glad I stayed up and studied, but now I’m tired . . . and ragged . . . and slowing down. Here’s hoping the on-call doesn’t get used. Phew, dodged that bullet.

50:. MyOneWord #6 or Really Payin’ For It

February 7, 2008 · 1 Comment

So, like I said in an earlier post, I’ve been off schedule because of numerous things. This means I didn’t check my iCal every day and get a good feel for my week. No big deal right? Wrong! This has totally thrown me off. So this afternoon, once I got my car back and all my laundry together, I headed back to my apartment for the first time in a week. Yes, a week. Sucks. Anyways, once I got settled, I started to put my room, which looked like the definition of chaos, in order. That had to wait until Small Group was over. I spent a good while with my guys, whom are all awesome and keep me grounded and focused. They were a great distraction. So I finally get my room put together. As I sit down, around 2am, I pull up iCal to get a look at tomorrow. Then I see it. I try to wipe my eyes, maybe it’s not real. But it is my friend, it is.

What?!? But I . . . It can’t be. I thought class was cancelled. But no, instead of class being cancelled and getting to sleep in, I am now in the midst of an impromptu all-nighter. I’ve made flash cards and I’m studying them like mad. And to make things harder, I have an on-call shift tomorrow at BR and its days like these that they use them. Awesome. Just pray for me, please. One thing is certain though: This isn’t an accident. Things get hard, and God is good. I’m trusting that He is showing me why my word is important in this aspect because I’ve prayed for Him to show me. Never said it would be fun or easy or void of all-nighters. This is gonna be fun and one thing is for sure: I will make it a point to check out my schedule quite a bit more often.

Any good all-nighter stories?

29:. No Friday Classes

January 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, i’d like to celebrate my first friday without classes by composing a short creative poem about why i love not having friday classes …..

F – Freedom to wake up at 10 … ok maybe 11 … so what if i get up around 2, i don’t have classes!
R – Really getting to enjoy Madden before AND after lunch if i want to.
I – I love having a day to just relax and reset, taking my Sabath
D – Dos words: Longer Weekend
A – Anytime i get extra days to see Sara Beth when i want to is awesome.
Y – Yes, my schedule is way better than yours.

Take a moment and celebrate with me. 4 day weekends rule!

15:. Finals

December 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So, its the end of the semester. For some, it means a break. For others, it means you’re done …. after 5 years …. for a 2-year degree (I love you dude). Anyways, this has been the most relaxing end of semester for me. I’m not stressed about any of the tests, and the projects i have to get done are getting done. I’m just ready to get that break. Its been an easy, enjoyable semester, but i’m ready for my schedule in the spring. No fridays. Mondays start at 2. Thursdays end at 2. What’s that mean? I get a 4 day weekend every week. Its a hard life, i know.

One thing that i do find hilarious are how some people completely melt down this time of year. And it all happens in the same place; the library. I’ll go in there from time to time, to hang out with friends or to casually get nothing done while talking to people, but one of my favorite past times is walking around and trying to find that one person who is just freaking out. Maybe they are pounding their head on a desk or my favorites are the ones who can’t stop talking and are just wired off of so much coffee they don’t know how to talk straight, until they crash 20 minutes before the test the next morning. I’d know, i’ve been there.

Which bring me to my next list, feel free to respond ….

Top 5 Songs to Listen to De-Stress
5. Brooke Fraser – Shadowfeet (what a voice on this one!)
4. MuteMath – OK (its a good reminder)
3. Thrice – Open Water (a real chill vibe and haunting melody)
2. Copeland – Testing the Strong Ones (takes me back to a simpler time)
1. Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said (reminds me that life is bigger than tests and stress)
